nut3y Previous owner left some spare parts in the car and I discovered this chip in the glovebox. Just wondering if anyone can identify this? I'm assuming it's for either climate control or ABS as both systems are faulty and the bloke enjoyed saving a buck so i'm guessing he'd rather replace just the culprit component rather than the whole pcb.
jamesinc It's non-trivial to open the ABS control module up. If he opened it you'd probably see evidence of it around the seam. The ABS modules are known to fail though, there's a guy around somewhere (SA?) who repairs them
nut3y Yeah cracked open the ABS module today, no signs of tampering. I will have to silicone the unit back up as I've broken the original seal. Just going to put the chip down to being a mystery as I'm not too concerned about the climate control working. I'll have to do some more troubleshooting to find out what exactly has failed in the ABS system if I want a RWC. ?
nut3y I've discovered that it's the 28f512 flash chip from the Motronic 4.3 ecu. Not sure why it's lying around maybe the previous owner got a literal chip tune if that's even possible? The car has a pipe welded in place of where the catalytic converter should be and the rear O2 sensor is gone with a welded bolt in its place. Car runs fine and there's no lambda light on and no engine codes, maybe that would explain why? I'm very confused.
hamsandwich Open your ecu, easy too see if it's been old school chipped. That don't look like the right chip for the ecu to me, small square one normally to chip ecu.
nut3y This is from a M4.3 ecu which has a rectangular flash chip, the flash in a M4.4 is square which is probably what you're thinking of. I will probably wind up swapping to a 4.4 anyways if I ever get the chance.
