I was reading up on the T5 conversion thread. There is so much going on in that thread with part numbers, which model to get what from, which input shaft works with what trans we have here... I can't get my head around which model I should aim for. Furthermore it seems guys here are spending the same money T56's are going for to get a suitable T5.
Speaking of which I assume T56's would still have the far back shifter placement and input shaft lengths that off the shelf adapters don't work for considering they're from the same car setups... Has anyone investigated T56 routes?
Back to the AY6 for a minute. I was doing more snooping around on the interwebs last night; yes it has a removable bellhousing. However, there is machined features in the bell housing which I'd guess are important. Have a look at these photos of a camaro bell housing currently on Ebay.

With the ratios of this box if it is paired with a 3.31 rear; first gear is almost identical to an M46 with 3.73 rear (which is what I have).
@VolvoHordz did you look into an AR5 at all?
