850 Panel between windscreen and dash top

I know this is a long shot but would anyone in the sydney/Illawarra area have that thin black panel that goes between the windscreen and dash top & from the left side to right side that is known to break up into small lengths as mine is in about 5 pieces on the 850

If you find 2 send one over to me as mine is shocking , bits of it missing and very cracked . Was actually in a hardware shop over the weekend looking at timber as im contemplating making something out of timber ?

You would have to pull the dash to do it, it is screwed to the frame of the dash with four screws. You can use some acrylic backing behind the cracks to set it all back together, but again the dash has to come out.

That's one advantage of having a UK car, mine has spent 21 of its 25 yrs in the UK with no sun so perfect plastics ?, and most of its time here in bits so no sun either ?

I've got to take the dash out this weekend to do the cluster as odometer and speedo gears need replacing as well as back light bulbs.

Ill have a look while I'm there, I wonder if it's something that Duncan Cassidy at Volvo Composites might mass produce considering its an issue world wide.

I've had the dash out, done bulbs and dash cluster gears, took a qiuck look at front panel.

Its something that may be done in fiberglass or if one was prepared to go to great lengths done in thin alloy.

I've got to take dash out a 2nd time to replace clear section of cluster as mine has some strange stain spots on it, will have a closer look then.

G'day Les, ye ended up just buying a dash mat and puting that on, made sure I had an air gap between top of dash and mat so there was still air flow.

I'd still like to try and make one when I retire and have the time

I bought a dash mat about 6 months ago , didn't like it , been sat in the garage since

Yes, they're not a great fit compared to the 2 series dash ones.

It didn't have the small holes in it at the top of each end to allow for the speakers to be heard on top of the dash so I got a set of cheap leather work hole punch pliers and put them in myself.
