Hi Guys, I'm new to the world of Volvo's having been involved in Escorts (the Car!) for the last 20years. Iso hit and I needed a new project so I picked a white 1989 240 Wagon and I have plans to shoehorn a LS1 into it.

Hi Guys, I'm new to the world of Volvo's having been involved in Escorts (the Car!) for the last 20years. Iso hit and I needed a new project so I picked a white 1989 240 Wagon and I have plans to shoehorn a LS1 into it.
Here it is how I picked it up
It's in pretty good knick for it's age. Has rust it the rear footwell and just needed a few trim pieces replacing but that's all pretty much done now
All fixed now inc the rear seat mounts which had ripped out (not sure if this is common)... Hopefully the roadie gets sorted this week
The parts gathering has started.
LS engine mounts, 17" Thor Wheels and spacers
whilst the car is off being fixed for the roadie I was thinking about a brake upgrade. I wanted something that was cheap and easy upgrade. I decided falcon xr6 calipers and 305 mm S60 rotors that just bolt straight on would work well. Here's a few mock up pics
I have a mate who is an engineer who made up some mounts for me.
Here they are mounted up
A mate has a hydro blast business so I got him to clean up the calipers
Before
After
Cleaned up and painted a spare set of struts
I've got front and rear king springs and KYB shocks to throw into the old girl
That's pretty much where I am up to atm. I'll keep posting as things progress.
I have a few more caliper brackets including the caliper for sale if anyone is keen. PM me.
Thanks for reading
Matt
Nice wagon!
Good to see a different approach, brakes first , i hope we can get a lot of pix up here.
Have fun!
Pm'd about the adapters.
What material are they made out of?
For those interested this combo will fit under 16" rims and is the biggest I think that will. Its tight, there could be some rims that aren't compatible.
I'm planning the same brake conversion and my mocking up found that gemini wheels would work. I just hadnt got around to actually fabricating adapters yet.
They are made from high tensile steel so very strong. You're right, some 16" wheels will fit depending on make.
I've got 17" rims so clearance is no issue.
Cheers
Matt
It may be worth seeing if anyone wants adaptors for say , 330mm xc60 rotors and calipers? If your mate was keen?
Bigger dia wheels of course.
I have spacers here if anyone wants.
Would they need 18" rims? These will do for now but we'll see what happens...
People have done 330mm rotors and falcon calipers before under a 17" rim.
I think in theory your adapter would also work in that setup - s60r rotors and xr6 turbo/xr8 calipers. Caliper itself is the same as normal xr6 but has a longer slide bracket to suit a larger rotor.
Rotor hat offset between s60 and s60r is more or less the same (0.3mm difference). Diameter is 25mm different (330 minus 305).
Only slightly different to the 24mm change in diameter between XR6 and XR6 Turbo (322 minus 298).
hmm I think you are right.
Ill look into it.
Cheers Matt
Id like to compare the xc60 calipers to the XR V8/T ones too as the xc upgrade to S/V60s is done but they use Brembo on P* cars at great cost though. So maybe Falcon calipers are better than xc?
Sorry to distract your thread, maybe spin off the bracket you are selling to another thread and take all this talk with it? Admin?
Good idea, ill start one. Cheers
New thread here:
Matt75Hi guys, as per my build thread I have made up some steel mounting brackets to fit Falcon XR6 calipers to the 240 Strut using s60 rotors.
Fitment is perfect and I think is a pretty cost effective and worthwhile upgrade.
Here's a few pics of the brackets and how they mount. They will fit under most 16" rims but may depend on wheel design.
I'll be selling the brackets on here a bit cheaper at $275 plus $15 postage AustWide if anyone is interested.
I also think you may be able to fit the larger XR6 turbo calipers and use the s60r rotors given the mounting holes are the same.
I'd be keen for any feedback
Cheers
Matt
