Hi guys, starting a new build with the white wagon I swapped, going to be installing a high end sound system and maybe other goodies in the future. Dont think the original alternator will be able to keep up with the high demand of electricity throughout the vehicle if i add these things to the electrical system.

so if anyone has a 100 amp (or more?) alternator i would love to know about it, thanks

Cheers, Levi

91 940 has a 100amp that should bolt in

your 91 940? or just 940s in general

The later 940's changed to a denso alternator (as opposed to bosch) and won't suit your car

@ramrod the 940 densos swap straight in actually. you just need to widen the ring terminal on the positive lead or crimp on a larger one.

What options are there regarding other makes with much higher outputs, like 120+? I remember reading somewhere on here the person got a Commodore or similar alternator, swapped the housings and it went straight in. But I remember there not being much info on the process... Anyone have any ideas or info on that route?

This had a lot of info that I struggled to understand

100A alternator in my 240.... you need to run a slightly smaller oil filter though (Ryco Z418), so you have room for the wiring to the back.

I run a 100 Amp from a 740 turbo (and probably other 740 models) on a 240 turbo and it is fine. Bolted straight on, genuine oil filter, all rather simple. From the link above look for the alternator voltage reg page, I run the adjustable voltage regs on my 100A Bosch alternators. Work a treat at low revs.

Im probably going to need more I just realised, seeing as most car amplifiers need at least 30 amps each and I’m wanting to install 2. Maybe also a second battery I’m not entirely sure.

@jared244 how did you fit the 16 valve in the 240 with the brake booster in the way?

It just fits... literally 5mm between the head and the booster without any mods. There are a few small tech issues that need to be overcome with a 16v head swap into a RHD 240, but generally much easier than LHD!

I've got a 100amp one from a 740T if you need it.
