Without doing anything at all It actually settled down and has been very good for for the last 2 years.
Must have just been an anomaly. All good and well worth the $235 AU in Rostra parts back in 2000.
Car is off road at moment and engine bay is looking a bit empty as I'm attacking some of the preventative maintenance a 23 year old car needs - fuel injectors, pcv system, electrical conduits, thermostats, sensors, engine clean, vacuum lines, turbo lines, rear camshaft seals, driveshaft boots and many other niggly things. In the process I came across the yellow tranny dipstick so checked the trans fluid. Pleased to say it looks too good and too clean to be worth a new flush; its only been around 30000km since solenoids and flush anyway.
Also happy to say the el cheapo Valvoline Multi Vehicle ATF fluid from Bunnings is just fine. There is absolutely no need to stick with Mobil 3309 as the sacred elixir irrrespective of it being AISIN OEM.
