Hi all,
I've got a 1987 Volvo 740GL. The engine and transmission both have 265,000 km. The transmission hasn't been regularly serviced by the previous owners, so its overdue for a fluid change. There is no slipping, but the shifts are a bit too hard for my liking.
I know that over in the U.S. everyone suggests a full-synthetic fluid in the AW70s and 71s. But here in Australia i can't seem to find many DEXIII full-synthetic fluids - only mineral or semi. There is a full synthetic Gulf Western fluid in Supercheap auto, but its $75 for 4 liters. Compare that to a mineral fluid, it'd be half the price for the same volume i.e. Castrol for $39.95.
I am going to do a torque converter flush and flush the entire system, so I need about 10 liters. I am looking for something which will hopefully restore smooth shifts, prolong the longevity of the transmission, and something that won't make me bankrupt!
What fluid would be best for this particular transmission?
