So…, this project stalled badly. Pushed it down to the back of the yard, where it is has been gathering leaves, and fortunately not having a big tree land on it on NYE.
It is not about to leap into life, but a few deals have been too good to ignore and are going into the 940 pile…
First up was a Hilux diff housing and axles to replace the earlier one that I traded as part payment for a dirtbike (no photo).
Second was a Hilux 4.1 LSD centre.
Third is a set of FD RX7 brakes. A mate offered them, and I negotiated a price on the understanding that it was a set of front rotors and calipers.
Except when I collected them, they have motorsport/3-piece rotors and there’s rears as well, and there’s the front uprights and upper arms…
The best part is that they juuuust fit under the 15” Falcon Snowflake wheels.
The next thing to track down is a pair of FC RX7 uprights to mount the FD brakes onto. Then (hopefully) I can mount Series 4 bolt on balljoints to the 940 control arms.
Obviously lots of geometry issues to sort out, but I think it is close enough to be worth trying.
The final score is a bunch of (old, hard) 205/65 rally tyres. They’re too big for the Merc and the BMW, but will be good for the Volvo.
So it will all be ignored for a while longer, but there’s some form of progress!
