  • 850 Turbo Wagon - SEQ preferably

Well, I am no longer 'jinxed' with 850's apparently (my non-Volvo car got written-off recently) so my wife has kinda given in and said that, as I have been a good boy, I can buy another....after Christmas.

So, I am looking for a '95+ turbo wagon , auto or manual. Modded or not. Ideally with a tow bar. Paint condition is not too important. Running and able to pass a RWC.

Buuuuuttttt.....it needs to be less that $5k. A year ago that didn't seem so unachievable, now though it seems people want silly money for them.

I may be tempted to go for a '70s/'80s 2 series wagon if an 850 can't be found.

Really wish I'd bought my white one back from Pickles earlier this year!! Oh well...

Thanks

I have a 240 wagon if you don't find an 850

wavysenxsei My 850r wagon is looking like it needs a new home. She has been a great car for the past 11 years. This thing corners and goes well for what she is. I don't really want to sell it but it's time to cut down on the amount of cars I have. Located on the Gold Coast, QLD. The Good - - Always maintained my specialist Volvo mechanics (Stevenson's Nerang) - Brand new Bilstein Touring shocks as of February - Swedish lowering springs (can't remember brand) - All new brake pads and rotors (yet to be installed) - Yokohama Blue Earth tyres - IPD USA extra thick prototype heavy duty rear sway bar and endlinks (this transformed the handling of the car) - Boost gauge and boost T. Was told ECU had been chipped but never confirmed. - IPD USA Aluminium Air box - Gearbox has been refurbed early in my time of ownership and shifts solidly. - IPD poly gearbox mount - Head was refurbed approximately 2 years ago. Bottom end was within spec so it was left. - Exhaust with sports muffler - New crystal indicators - Tow point The Honest - - It showing signs of age around the place and in the paint (namely roof, bonnet and side skirts) - Needs brake components installed - Air con compressor doesn't work - Radiator is wired on as one mount is broken - 300 KM's (odo stopped working) Price starts at $6500 due to all the new stuff I just bought for it. negotiable. Please note - I will only sell it to someone who is going to treat it well so no P platers. Sorry. Message me to arrange phone calls/inspection. Cheers

This has been for sale for a good while mate, only up the road from you, maybe worth a punt at 5k ?

Your white one is still for sale somewhere around, it keeps popping up, I did have a brief chat with the new owner, he didn't come across well ?

@ramrod thanks mate, I'll keep that in mind. Do you have it listed anywhere so I can have a look?

@Jamest5r_ thanks for that. Yeah I got in touch about the grey one but my last message never got a response. Also, after looking at it on Gumtree in not entirely sure it's worth $5k without a fair chunk of rego coming with it. I'll see if I can track down my old white one, at least I know it's history. Thanks. Probably shouldn't have got rid of all my bits and pieces haha

G'day Pf

I have a Black 96 AWD turbo manual Estate. Rego 'til 5/20. $5k is a bit skinny but if it's a straight purchase you'll be very pleased. I'm pretty restricted physically but if you're interested I'll get some photos & service invoices. I'd prefer you pm me for my mobile number & email address if you wish to discuss. Regards, Tiny/Adrian

Hey Tiny, thanks for that.

I hadn't even considered the 2.5 LPT if I'm honest as I've never owned one. From what I've read you can't get too much more power from them before they brake. I could be wrong though, so if anyone knows different I'd be more than happy to hear about it.

Can you get 300hp+ out of them? If so, how?

I should probably edit my post to state 2.3l turbo.

You can run a 16t and white injectors on the lpt engines @17psi which gives about 250hp at the wheels. I have a manual v70xc running this setup for years no problems

I had a low kms v70 2.4 litre turbo engine fitted to my 1996 AWD - it goes very well, much better than the original 2.5 litre turbo. new timing belt, coil pack, fully serviced.

@timbo thanks for that. My aim is to go for more HP than that though, with an eventual output of 400+... that's the plan at least!

@Brehon47 yeah okay, thanks for the heads up. To be honest though I'd rather not be swapping in new engines at this stage. Unless of course I could pick up a 2.3t dirt cheap, attempt to make that 'bulletproof' and then swap out the 2.5lpt.

That all seems like quite a lot of work though at this stage, especially for someone with my limited knowledge, resources and workspace.

I appreciate all the input though.

400+......you'll need some serious build for that, forged block, rods, pistons, injectors, massive turbo and that's just for starters, lsd diff will be a must, hope you have another 10k spare ?

timbo

Or make @Jamest5r_ an offer he can't refuse for his car!

????

Last build was 361bhp and 560nm so close to the 400 mark, this one will hopefully be a touch more but won't be 400 unless I swop in a massive Garret but then lag is a problem and makes them not a nice drive. 350 ish is plenty for a fwd car

There's a 850R wagon on Gumtree

Hey @242GT if it's the one in Mudgeeraba priced at $6500 then yeah I've seen that, had no response from the seller for about a week. To be honest, looking at the condition, I don't believe it's worth $6500 and as it's been up for sale for quite some time now and he hasn't reduced it, I'm presuming he's not willing to go much lower. Thanks though.

@Jamest5r_ yeah well I was kinda planning on a serious build this time. No more bolt-on bits just custom fabricated. If I could get one at a good price I'd be willing to spend big money to get it to where I want it. The last one, though I never got it dyno'd, should have been running low-to-mid 300's...when it was running!

Feels like 12 months ago there were wagons for sale in every direction that you looked, now there's barely anything.

Not that many of them here, in particular, the 96 R wagon in manual was thirty odd into Australia out of seventy or eighty R wagons that year.

So, prices are higher,no supply.

Maybe get a V70 , you can retrofit all the bits to make it look 850.

Yeah, even over the UK prices seem to have increased significantly @Ex850R which is a shame as I'm about to head over there.

I'm kinda leaning towards an earlier wagon if I can't get an 850, retrofitting a V70 seems like an added headache.

I'm in no rush, the longer it takes me to track one down the longer I have to save extra build money.
