  • M46 and associated parts req. for 240 manual conversion

Hey there,

Looking for an M46 with bellhousing, driveshaft, pedal assembly, clutch slave and whatever else is required for converting a 240 to manual. Would require a LH2.4 flywheel. But realise that's a bit spesh. Pretty sure I could get standard flywheel drilled if someone could confirm?

If someone had a T5 with everything required for conversion, I'd consider going down that route too.

Am located in Brisbane but happy to arrange pick up and transport from interstate.

Cheers

Might have an m46 and ds if no-one else can supply. In Brisbane.

Look at Angus' wagon. Literally everything you will need. And a car.

You're better off with a T5 long term, and ridiculously better ratios and strength to go with that

So basically, the auto in my 245 is shitting itself. I figure I may as well convert to manual now. It's going to stay stock so the M46 should be fine.

I've got a 242GT which I can rob the drivetrain from. I'm just tentative in doing so. Thought I'd see what's out there. But I'm kind of using it as a reason to strip the GT drivetrain and get the bodywork seen to. I will be upgrading motor and gearbox in it when it's ready so makes sense to just use it's box etc for the 245.

Still means I'll have to sort a flywheel but looks like @dmc may be able to help me out.

Angus' car looks like a good deal btw. If I didn't have a newfound motivation to get the GT project happening I'd definitely be keen.

Can't be too many manual setups around the traps these days.

I also have an M47 conversion which is almost complete, but doesn't have a flywheel so you would still need to source that. Someone else has shown some interest in it so would need to confirm with them before saying whether or not it's still going to be available.

I have a pedal box kicking around that is available.

I have most stuff needed, your 2.4 flywheel try classicswede in the UK

Thanks for the offers everyone. I'm thinking now it may be more sensible to keep the GT together for now.

On doing a bit of reading, I've seen that there are different spline sizes on the input shaft. Does anyone know which would be most suitable for a 92 b230fx? Looks like the fine spline? If the box doesn't have the fine spline would it be a case of changing the input shaft to make it work?

'79 and newer boxes are all fine spline, and prior to '79 we only got the M45 four speed in Australia, so whatever box you get will be fine spline.

In other terms fine spline = 22 tooth

coarse spline = 10 tooth

Should have news on dished flywheels converted to LH 2.4 next week (though it has been many months so far). First round of R&D failed for the dished ones, fingers crossed on round two. The flat ones are a go, having two done this week, one of which is spoken for. There is also another flat one available that should work with a normal clutch.

Pic of flat flywheel on an old engine for measuring for those interested. All done by a very high quality machine shop. Need to arrange balancing for them too. Any leads on a good flywheel balancer in Melbourne?

How much is one of these flat ones?

Need to sort out balancing first.

This place was the first to pop up on google and they seem to like flywheels

Anyone had any experience with them?
