As the former owner of the 244. I'd like to see it go somewhere it'd be appreciated and looked after. I spent a lot of money and time on it when I had it, but eventually it became too much for me living in the country.
Would I like to buy it back? If I had 3k to spend, quite possibly.

Is going on Gumtree this weekend asking with the xc70.
Paul, i'm asking a very reasonable $2k with all of the brand new parts I've just bought for it. $1500 without. Included in that parts list is the brand new Bluetooth head unit, new thermal coated 4-2-1 long tube header, new kyb g2 shocks all around and brand new pads and rotors all around. The parts alone would cost about $1300 here.
If you're interested in getting it back just let me know. I'm open to offers but if its not work anything to anyone I'll just give it to a local friend who could use a car.

My situation to get another Volvo has changed now, so sadly I will have to pass up on the opportunity. Which I know I will kick myself over later.

$2K sounds like a steal :)

yeah, i thought it was a very good price as well. I had planned on getting it cleaned back up and put on gumtree with a proper ad. Maybe I can do that later tonight while cleaning house.
So if anyone is interested, my last day at work is the 18th of July. So from the 19th to the 22nd I won't need the the xc70. My plan is to take it down to Parramatta rd and just drive up and down the street and visit every dealer with a "we buy your car" sign and get an offer. Highest offers wins.
I'm looking for $4500 out of the XC70 which I think is a bargain as well. If anyone is serious at that price speak up now and I'll hold it for you. If not I'll just unload it on the day and take what I can get for it.

244 is gone. XC70 remains

Your XC sales technique sounds like a sure fire way to get $1200 for it.
I'm not $4500 interested in it (probably a fair price), but unless the "we pay cash" crowd has suddenly gotten a hell of a lot more generous, I reckon there's at least a couple of people on here who will be happy to beat what they will offer.

I got an offer of $1700 from Mark which he admitted was way low. Honestly I know I'm going to take a huge loss on the car but that's what happens when you have limited time and options

$1700 is likely better than the cash for cars mob will give. Having talked to many recently when i was selling the v70, they really see p2 and after stuff as a big risk so price accordingly.

This.
Like a pawn shop, they work on the theory that you are seriously desperate to be rid of the car - if you aren't, the next punter will be.

Then what is your suggestion? I need to drive it another 2 weeks and get rid of it in a 2-3 day window.

Take that offer and leave it with someone Mark is happy to pick up from or at freight depot? Or offer on gumtree for 2k and anyone that bites tell them when they can have it? Not a great position but will get more money and still leaves you the cash for cars fallback.

Matt if you need help I am happy to sell it on your behalf, but I'll be away July 9-29 so it would have to sit around at my place until then. Remember I live in the heart of Volvo territory :-P

Also who ended up buying the 244?
Philia_Bear
Someone from the volvo car club who will give it a good home

Sounds like a nice offer. Any idea what you think you'd be able to get for it? I don't understand why it would be worth 3.5xs more wrapped around a tree than on the road. Why is everyone asking between $4-9k for them if they're only worth $1400?? Why do I keep buying volvos that have to be given away rather than sold??

That is the way of the love of cars.
Somewhat like the love of a good woman.
Costs you so much and you lose a bit of your soul , it hurts but you keep doing it.
Remember my experience...

James's offer is best result , if it fails Mark will always be there. We will all go out of our way to help you any way we can you should know that by now , its the Aussie way.

i dunno if thats the general rule. I've owned plenty of other cars that haven't lost as much value as this.
also, women are worthwhile if you pick the right ones. Apparently you may have gotten the "volvo' of the female sex.

They're not worth only $1400 - if you put it on Gumtree for $1400, you'll sell it in a couple of hours. The thing is that if you're selling to a re-seller, they will only pay wholesale prices at best. In reality, they are used to desperate people selling at below wholesale prices - you need to have something particularly desirable (for them to resell) before they will consider buying at wholesale prices. Also remember that resellers have to pay GST, so it adds to the "mark up" they need to make.
That said, nobody is getting $9k for them - even $5k is good (not great) money now. The market has been sick for a while now, but is stone cold dead since the federal budget.
Not even dealers are able to get $6k+ for them with any regularity (clueless mugs are happy to pay a premium at dealers for the illusion of peace of mind).
If you had all the time in the world, you could probably get $4500 or so for it. Most people would end up taking $3500~4000 on the 'want it sold vs want the cash' balance.
You also need to sharpen your ad up (I understand that what you've posted is mostly appropriate for this forum) - Clearly state how many kays, how much rego, anything that needs doing, service history (particularly timing belt), what the paint/body is like, whether anyone has smoked inside it, what the tyres are like, etc.
It's a buyer's market, so you need to bend over backwards to make their life easy - saying "contact me for details" is another reason to NOT contact you when the buyers are spoiled for choice. They will want everything laid out for them.
The old idea of selecting a dozen cars worthy of a phone call, then using the phone calls to narrow it down to the six most likely candidates to look at, narrowing them down to two or three and seeing which seller will do the best deal are gone.
The normal method now is to find the most likely candidate based primarily on price vs kms, haggle over the phone, then go and look at it and buy it if it is as promised. (I like the old method better, but so be it).
So your ad matters way more than it used to.
