I found the engine to be hugely underwhelming and clattery, being a 2001 pre facelift it came supplied with the 10p engine, swapped out by a previous owner for a 16p with the internal gallery injector return line as most of the 10ps has crapped themselves by now

Under powered, had to rev its tits out to go anywhere and a resoundingly weak torque converter made it rather risky and uncomfortable to own.

Im actually in the process of fitting a rebuilt 3.9/4.0L V8 into my D1 Doris from a D2 with a fresh cam and some nice new gaskets

Stock are a bit underwhelming, but the one I had tuned went like a rocket.

Did Hobart to Zeehan in 3 and a half hours once..

Would still go better than 300tdi. An exhaust , tune and variable vane turbo apparently helps them quite a bit.

V8 goes nice, but the fuel bill gets a bit scary if you do big kms in them. Chuck in a D1 V8 or TD5 thermostat, it helps save the headgaskets.
