  • 240 wagon rear wiper delay relay

Looking for the yellow late-model 240 wagon rear wiper delay relay - same as photo below. If anyone is parting a car the relay is located under the passenger side carpet LH side footrest panel. I think it may also be same on some 740 & 940 wagons. I know I can get a new one but looking for cheap and cheerful as I’ve already overcapitalised on my project LOL!

It must get expensive color coding all your car parts with the duco color ?

Any idea what year that relay started? I can check my '87 parts wagon if it's likely to have one.

Pretty sure the 87 would have it. I’m really bummed I forgot to grab one (or 3) at the parts sale at Phillip Island on Sunday. DOH! Daniel McIndoe might have one as well. They should be common.

Look at what it has to do and buy a new Hella one that does the same ?

Probably could do that but it must be fairly unique as the front wiper delay relay has identical terminal numbers and you’d think they could be identical relays, but they’re not. So I’d rather just use a used Volvo OE one since they are plentiful and hopefully under $20. New ones are closer to $50 IIRC.

They are very old though and the nature of the thing is it may fail so perhaps a new one is more cost effective? Capit a l cost versus later repair and replace cost....

The only things that can fail in this style of relay are cracked solder joints and carbon on the relay contacts, both easy fixes as the cover unclips. The rest is basic solid state components, no black magic inside.

Yep. Only reason I need one is the 79 just had a jumper pin thing and no delay wiper relay. Interestingly even the switch had no delay silk-screen logo on it but the switch position is still there. Guess they saved $10 by not fitting the relay!

And have one I do. Will put it with the other bits for ya.

Thanks Heaps Tristan! Anything I can send back for you?
