240 fuel pump for 1974/5 model

I have a 244DL 1974 plated but apparently is considered a 1975. I'm advised that the petrol pump is unique to the 74/75 244. I have further info that all 75-78 or 79 models have the same petrol pump.

The original pump bears Volvo part number 460821- Bosch part number is 0580254996

Can anyone assist with a good used - or new - pump?

I'm also told 2 series pumps from 81 onwards can be fitted but require significant modification.

Any help to locate a suitable pump would be appreciated.

That's a K-Jet main fuel pump.

90 litres per hour, 750cc (min) per 30 sec.s, 5 bar pressure, with funny li'l fittings out the side.

Same basic pump used in K-Jet 140s, K-Jet 240 up to 84, although 'Bild 1' (with funny li'l things on the side) disappeared and was superseded by 'Bild 2' style units, which were the service replacements for Bild 1 pumps.

These things also have an accumulator as another part of their setup.

These should work as replacements -

Or any 5 bar pump that flows at least 1500 cc per minute. Some Merc K-Jet 5-bar pumps flow a wee bit more, but that's okay; this is why we have fuel pressure regulators.

Thanks Bob - you are the OZVOLVO archivist par excellence.

I might be out of the woods - the mechanic replaced a broken pump shaft and it seems fine albeit l haven't driven it any distance yet.

I'll post an update tomorrow.

Dear All - I finally got back behind the wheel - the 'repair' lasted until I drove off the 'fixer's' driveway...literally. I'm beyond patience but will order a new pump using the trove of advice and information you have made available.

More to follow when it is reliable. I did want to take it to the Bathurst frolic but that now seems out of the question. I will take my 144GL manual instead and hope someone likes it enough to buy it. I will trailer it to Bathurst so will include delivery within a reasonable limit - Sydney and environs or equivalent.

What are you looking to spend/willing to spend on a new pump? I have a NOS genuine Volvo one (Bosch 996) that I could part with for decent $$ to fund my other project, although I’m tempted to keep it as it is the same as on my 1800ES...PM me if you want to make an offer on the pump I have. I have only seen a couple online in the $500-700USD range, but I would sell it for a bit less than that. Aftermarket ones are cheaper so probably better to go that way.

Thanks Carnut - Bob from Launceston set out a number of options. At present I'm well over this vehicle.- fully recond head ($961), new tyres ($400), $500 on transmission, $480 recond calipers, $780 service & maintenance & much more.

I'm inclined to fit a Bosch pump externally inside the boot with the correct pressuure & volume specs but can wait now while l ready my 144GL manual to sell to fund my AWD Estate repairs.

Thanks for your suggestion mate but if can come up with a pump solution as above I'll convert the rest as necessary.

I just fitted this bosch 0 580 464 126 to an early 2 series, there was a little bit of work involved in making it fit but nothing major. I soldered some ring terminals onto the harness, fitted a longer bolt to the clamp, and put a small piece of foam between the rear side of the pump and the side of the tank since the new pump is longer and can rub on the tank. The plastic spacer around the pump is a genuine bosch part designed to allow the newer pump to fit into an early bracket. The check valve and output fitting are from an 80s K jet 240.
