Hi Marty. I have a pair from a 93 240 (I assume you mean sedan, as wagon is different). They’re in pretty good condition with minimal fading. Whereabouts are you located as postage will cost a bit...I’m near Daylesford VIC if you can pick up...or I can arrange drop in Melbourne. I think I had $40 on the pair, plus postage if need be. Lemme know if you’re interested.
Here’s the ones I have available.
The car is a wagon. How are they different?
The spacing on the posts is different for one, and the shape on the sedan headrests puts the mounting posts much farther rearward than the surface of the headrest as the posts go in behind the sedan seatback into the parcel shelf with special mounting brackets. The wagon rear headrests posts are in line with the headrest and drop straight into the holes int he top of the wagon seatback.
This is what the wagon rear ones look like.
Note the mounting post spacing on the wagon rear headrests is the same as the later front seat headrests, but I have not yet been game to push a front headrest fully into the wagon rear seatback on my car as I’m afraid it will snap in and not come out again...I’m going to try and modify the sedan front headrest to fit the wagon by cutting out the notch so it can’t accidentally get stuck in. So that could be an option for you as the wagon rear headrests are somewhat hard to find.
Here’s what the later (86-93) front seat headrests look like (compare to the wagon rear headrest pic above)...the wagon one has an extra “ladder rung” at the bottom...not sure why - maybe to prevent it from twisting or to spread the load more evenly along the top of the wagon rear seatback. Anyway, as I said the post spacing is the same on these so you could potentially use front headrests (easily obtained) in the back of your wagon.
If you look closely at the bottom of the front headrest, you’ll see it has a notch in it - this clips into a feature on the front seats and prevents them from pulling out unless you push on the release tab (difficult with the seat upholstery in place). I’m going to try cutting it off and then see how they fit in the rear wagon seat. When I tried pushing them in as-is, the fit was quite tight and I was worried they wouldn’t come out. The wagon headrests just have a straight tube and are designed to slide in and out easily so you can remove them to fold down the seat.
Finally, I believe the correct part number for the tan wagon rear seat headrest is 3540275. It MAY still be available new through the Volvo dealer network. Looks like it’s listed on some US dealer network for prices of around $80-100USD each. Depends how much you want to have them I guess and it may be discontinued but still showing up on for example tascaparts.com. Please confirm applicability of part number before buying as I just learned that from a Google search and it may not be accurate.
Wow. Thanks for the info. I’m not crazy for them but figure they’d be good to grab if someone’s got some. Cheers
Unfortunately I gave a set of tan ones away when we converted our car to an EV...now I’m regretting it and have a lead on another set for my current project. Never get rid of anything! ;)
