Installing a left foot rest in a 740GLE

One of the things I don't like about my 1990 740GLE is that it lacks a left foot rest. There seems to be ones in the 960s and the 850s.
Here's the IPD replacement one:

Has anyone tried to retrofit a rest in a 740?

Had a local guy fabricate & install a footrest into Inga for $60.
Here's a photo of the unit:

Nice and solid, just have to put some rubber over the flat section for wear & tear as the black paint won't last.

That's huge! I guess as I'm so tall I don't need a footrest, I barely use them in cars that have them, such as my wife Subaru, they hurt my leg in the end...

I am tall too and find that the ankle angle without a footrest tends to get painful after a while. Easy enough to switch position but can wait much longer between switches if I have a footrest.

Well he could have made it smaller but it was measured up for me and I'm a shorty!

Yeah I hate footrests, they get in the way. In the Forester I have to place my foot almost right under the clutch.

I like it! I too have issues with out one. Broken both a ankles multi times. Driving with out using that foot for more than 40mins, and it starts to ache. Left foot not so much of an issue as I'm moving it slightly.

Maybe I should look into it, a little more narrow for clearance of the clutch etc.

How did you fix it to the floor pan?

It's bolted to the floor using 4 tek screws straight through the carpet and underlay. Two come out behind some of the heatshield of the firewall and the other two through the floor. Just use some compound such as underbody sealer to stop any water getting in and rust forming.
