Have some 17 x 7.5 steel wheels being modified to fit my 240 wagon. Anyone know what ET I should have them set at?

You should measure the dimensions from the wheel mounting surface to the fender (inner and outer). This will give you your offset. Tyre size matters too

What were the wheels off originally and are you using new outer bands or reusing the originals, as the band limits yur options if its from a high offset front wheel drive

So someone is splitting the wheel centre from the outer band and re-welding the wheel for you, or have you sourced new outer wheel bands?

Theyre probably identical to the ford kuga wheels, which are the same spec 17x7.5 +52.

The problem is the step lip that the wheel centre is welded to is about 25-30mm, you can really only flip the centre and weld them back in the roughly same spot give or take 10mm max, which will be unsuitable for a 240

Have you checked the centre bore as the modern ford centre bore is too small for the 240.

I think around +10 would be ideal, but I'd suggest taking your own measurements.

140 and 240 have quite different offsets.

I made a set and put the 17" kuga steelies on toms 140 and trial fitted them to my 240.

Post some pictures of your wheels and i can explain it better.

You dont have unlimited choice of offset with the stock wheel barrell/outer rim

Aside from having to spend more for tyres, a bumpier ride and still having steel wheels, what's the point?

Grip, handling, and looks, I'd assume. The same reasons most people upgrade wheels/tyres.
