deleted_user_160 Ok so a couple have been let in on the secret of my 17" steel wheel project. I've always liked the deep dish and of late the flip rim style. So scored my self a bunch of spacesaver a to get re barreled. The issue arises when I attempt to fit them (flip style) to get my measurements. It's a no go. Nearly 3/4inch off flush fit due to the roll and the caliper. Now do I just run spacers and extended threads. Or just run thm standard face and set them really deep. Sadly this means the centre of te wheel won't look as deep as I wanted. :( Anyone have some ideas. The crazier the better.
deleted_user_160 What ideas can people come up with to help get me running flip rim style, while maintaining clearance. If I can not do that decently. Then I'll have to just run factory (face out) not in.
Rob I still don't quite get what you are saying. Where is the clearance issue? The space savers should fit no problems. and you should be able to quite easily fit reversed orientation outers to your centres if that is the look you are after. do you have any pictures to show the problem.
Rob I have been thinking about this. Are you trying to run the centres backwards, as in the outside face of the rim up against the hub and the surface that normally sits against the hub on the outside. :-O I fucking hope not.... You can't do that.
Rob a 'flipped' rim is when the outer band has been removed from the centre, flipped around and refitted. This means the deeper part of the outer band is on the outside, giving a very big dished look. It certainly doesn't mean the whole wheel is fitted backwards.
Ben There's a few threads on turbobricks that talk about flipping rims, Peugeot steelies seem to be pretty popular. I love the idea. There may even be a thread on here about it, I think @Raebird may have done it?
deleted_user_160 17" is my game though. Not many factory spec 17" steel, so I'm rebarrelling them. Hopefully the barrels have the facing edge with the flattest posable barrel. Get that smooth deep look. Ultimately I want that wheel dish look like that grey estate above. But I'm thinking it's becoming less of an option
Ben Yep, available in 17. Do a search on TB. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=turbobricks+flipping+wheel&oq=turbobricks+flipping+wheel&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3j69i59j69i60.4615j0j4&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8
Vee_Que blondejay;20524 wrote not mine. being space savers, they are getting rebarreled. 8" and 10" Those are diamond racing rims. Not space savers. Sold like that new. You won't get the effect you're talking about with the space savers.
Ben Wheels are originally 17" Peugeot 407 steelies, widened to 8½" front and 9½" rear. Tires are Falken FK452, 215/45-17 front and 235/40-17 rear. http://turbobricks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177609&page=46
A_Volvo_Driver Gawd I hate the fad of the rim sticking out further than the tyre - I think that this fad was created by people who repair scuffed rims :) Back on topic, those wheels on the wagon look tough - remind me of NASCAR rims.
deleted_user_160 There's a chance the wagons rims are diamond racing. (NASCAR wheel manufacturer) Those wheels look nice. No need for me to get the French wheels as I already have the space savers and already the same centre. Will have to barrel them
Raebird Not me, I bought mine already done. Why not redrill to 5x114.3 then you have heaps of options for wheel fitment?
deleted_user_160 i only want steel wheels. and would have to run flip rims on factory ford or holden rims. and they only do 16" steel. as previously mentioned, peugeot do a 17" but finding them is a right pain in the ass. finding large alloy wheels in 5x108 is no issue these days. there are lots of cheap options.. but im all steel baby
