  • Mechanic not wanting to service if car has mods or non genuine parts

(Not a hate post BUT )

I had mine serviced by a Volvo garage over this way (WA) . They fixed an abs issue, great . But i had some other nigles i wanted looking at . When i went to pick the car up i asked if they looked at what i said . The reply was .... it has after market parts on therefore we will NOT even touch it , not even look at it . Will only look at volvo oem parts !

Surely this can not be normal practice ??

Volvo dealer or?

My local dealer has zilch issues doing software stuff on my highly modified s40

Sometimes it's just up to the dealer

Surprising not willing to use non genuine parts

      Not normal practice at all.

We fit modifications to volvos at my work.

My local dealer let me tow the t5 amazon to their workshop for software updates but the boss got a bit cranky because the entire placed stop work to check it out.

To be honest i was happy to find a volvo garage that sorted the abs but drove away a bit miffed. Silly things like he looked down at the brake discs and commented they're not volvo , they won't last then onto the suspension, intercooler etc . He was adamant that he wouldn't work on it .

I guess it is his right to not get and keep customers but seems like poor business practice

Sounds like a right twat, TBH.

If his world is so small and so delicate that he can't cope with the idea of non-genuine bits, then I suspect that he's not a good mechanic and not a good businessman.

Probably dodged a bullet by not dealing with him.

Actually have it in writing ... in Red ink

Should be able to see it

This is a typical example of a "mechanic" who hasn't the confidence to unstuff a stuffed car

Not willing to work on a car with aftermarket parts... except all the Volvo cars they have fitted aftermarket parts to themselves, because Volvo no longer makes those parts. ;-p
