hi all,
It's been a long time but in November I decided to give the car to a mechanic who said he'd fixed one a few months ago - about three hours.
He insisted it was 'the rocker box' gasket though I had new seals for it and told him so.
In January I really decided to let him 'fix my car'. Told him the seals were on the passenger seat but he said no it wasn't that. I made an appointment on the Thursday for a Wednesday (22nd of January) job I delivered the lovely car at 7.00AM.
I had to call him at 10.00AM Thursday to ask him how it was going. He said oil is pouring out of it - he can't do the job and wants to take it to the Volvo 'expert' (who I was trying to avoid). He's offered me $500 to placate me. I begrudgingly accepted.
The Volvo 'expert' quoted me $3000 and since the car was there I had to agree. I was in shock.
He pointed out some oil on the timing belt (30k old) needs replacing and a vacuum pipe. Later he said the wiring around the coils was a bit shoddy and he'd tidied it up.
I agreed with whatever he said.
Weeks later, (last Friday 11.00AM) he says it's only running on two cylinders and is waiting new coils from Melb. I say I didn't ask for new coils and he said then I can drive it home on two cylinders if I wish. I say no. I ask that he keep in communication with me.
I'm writing this Monday 17th Feb 2020 at 10.40AM and have heard nothing from the Volvo 'expert' and wondering what the final cost will be for the slight oil leak that I should never have worried about.
So, after two mechanics my great car, has gone to a car pissing oil after being at one, and now running on two cylinders after another.
I am really losing sleep.
