Anyone please help adivse if there is any big issue with the car:
Pre-purchase inspection reports:
- Engine breather partially blocked
- Engine oil pressure takes time to get pressure up
Done by a reputable mechanic in Melbourne (among the recommended on this forum most of the time). Everything else is still OK.
It's a 2007 Volvo XC90 LE Auto 4x4 MY07; 2.5L Turbo Petrol
Should I buy it or not? Any advise?
Thanks a lot
This has happened to my 2004 XC90 2.5 before. The cause is still not 100% known but it could be due to multiple factors like dirty oil, PCV not serviced, etc.
The PCV trap dumps filtered oil back to the sump through a small "cannal" with a 23 degree elbow in the end. (Poor design IMO)
The only way to clear it is to take down the oil sump, get a long wire and work it out.
If this pathway gets blocked, it blocks up your PCV trap and pushes the dirty oil up the breather pipe going to the cylinder head.
Depending on how long it was left like that, the damage could range from PCV system needs replacement to worn out seals due to pressure or worse, the cylinder valves.
5000 kms / year is actually not good for the engine. It means two things:
1. It is driven at short distances only, causing premature engine wear.
2. It has been sitting unused for a long time, which means you get oil, petrol, and other fluids gelling and/or sediment build up.
If you can get it for peanuts, then I would consider. If it is roughly the same price, then I would shop elsewhere.
