Where did we get to on the brand of oil? Going to do a flush on the V8 the nulon is a smidge cheaper than penrite. Just going to get 20l and be done with it that should be plenty to clean it out.

Others are having better results with Nulon.
I've done Penrite, still have lots of it... But am trying Nulon next.
It can solve the issues or not....

Just a bit of prevention on this car but have used penrite in 2 others so will be interested to see how it goes.

I've never had any issues with either, I consider Nulon and Penrite to both be good brands

Yup. I’d be tempted to not switch if it was me as mixtures are generally not as good as a single brand and getting a trans truly empty to switch over just doesn’t happen.

@egads I have no idea what is in the V8 XC90 now and hence purchasing 20l to give the best chance of a decent flush. It has been about 60k since the box was reconditioned and I am certain it would not have had a flush. Like I said prevention is better than cure.

Re the codes on the vehicle as per 2nd garage. There were no transmission codes. There were codes for glow plugs and 'multiple communication fault codes'. Garage suspected a dodgy battery caused this but battery checked out fine, road tested car multiple times and could not detect anything. No trans oil leaks. As oil was dark I had it replaced again with intent of taking back in 3 weeks to see if dark again- if so I figure indicative of a problem, if not I suspect it wasn't done by local garage. Took it home, through car wash and it threw a message to get anti skid service but that disappeared so put it down to sensor and car wash? Drove for a week then out of blue this morning it messages Engine System Service required. Ho hum.

Engine system service required message means it's got too much oil in it. It should be no more than 3/4 full the dipstick there's a sticker in the engine bay that shows this. Most garages overfill these engines particle filter burnoff can dilute the oil and cause the level to rise. Best bet is go to see @VolvoMike at
