I am looking for advice on how to spruce up the K-jet system in my 84 GLE, which looks like a horrible mess of hoses to me. The aim is to have my car running as well as it can, as it is my daily driver.
What is involved? Simply replacing the hoses one by one? If so, what size/type, etc do I want? I have the flame trap things, but don't know where they go. Are there any other bits that I would want to get too?
Is this something a novice can do, or best left in more experienced hands?

@volvohordz may know the sizes you need. Replacing air hoses won't hurt. Adjusting the kjet is more tricky and you would want all fresh and good bits before doing that as you can adjust very far out. I imagine a CO meter and a guns on colourtune would be handy, much as they are in setting carbs.

When I got my current 240 with K-jet, the car was horrible to start, idled bad, it was a nightmare. A volvo mechanic stated the K-jet needed over hauling for around $800. I figured I would give it a go first.
I fixed all the air leaks related to the system, i used a de-carboniser aerosol, and now she runs sweet!
The air hose from the air filter to the K-jet has to be without ANY air leak or crack.
The aerosol de-carboniser from Bursons is great stuff! You spray it into the air intake just before the injectors while the engine is running, then wait 5 minutes, then repeat with the engine revving and in "N". This works great, lots of black stuff comes out of the exhaust.
In my short experience with K-jet, doing the above is a good start and attainable to most D.I.Y car owners.

Looks like I need some de-carboniser. Cheers Gareth
