Registering Interstate vehicles - Vic-----> NSW

Hi all, I've noticed that Sydney/NSW seems to have a lack of decent cars on the market and have expanded my search to the surrounding states (mainly Victoria).

I've noticed in many posts from Victoria that there are references to the RWC Certs. Is this equivalent to the pink slip/safety check in NSW?
If i was to bring a vehicle from Vic to NSW a blue slip would be required, in that case does a Vic RWC also be needed for the process? The RMS website doesn't mention anything about other state certs.

You cannot transfer registration from State to State in Australia.

You would need to cancel the existing Vic registration and start fresh in NSW.

I am not 100% clear in the NSW process but the Vic rwc would be irrelevant.

Recent passes vic rwc will maybe give piece of mind but nothing more. NSW blue slip is a bit less hardcore than Vic check though as they don’t have yearly inspections

If buying a car from South Australia, make sure the VIN is on the rego papers. The 242GT I bought from there and rego'd in NSW caused some headaches for the blue slipper, because the SA rego papers didn't have either the VIN nor the engine number on them.

I'm looking at a similar situation but in reverse.

I think the technicality is whether you transfer the reg into your name and then bring into your home state and re-register.
Or
Whether you cancel the rego in the state of sale (and maybe part refund) and re-register in your home state.

In October last year I bought the black C70 from BMG at Mitchum, we organized a unregistered no plates permit $53, we flew down from Sydney landed at 8am, Uber to car at BMG and drove home (no plates) via Brown Bros winery and lunch in Albury, home in the driveway in Wollongong at 8pm.
Blue slip inspection and regoed in NSW the following saturday.
Note: trucking qoute $585 with no winery tour?

12yrs ago I did the same with a 1989 740Turbo that was sold in Wollongong to Melbourne buyer, 4yrs I found it on eBay flew down and drove it back, handed plates in and blue slipped it and regoed.

As has been stated previously it is very important and makes for a quicker registration when all documentation identification details are able to be presented to the RMS in NSW.

Note: its very important to ring your insurer before you drive the car home and get a cover note, just incase.

If you were a Victorian, buying a Vic registered car, it would need a RWC for the rego to be transferred. Without a RWC, the car must be sold unregistered.
This is why the Victorians often make a point about the presence or absence of a RWC.

You won't be able to transfer the Victorian rego, unless you can prove that you have a Victorian garaging address for the car, AND you'll still need a NSW Blue Slip to get NSW rego, so that's not a viable option.

So what 242GT said is spot on: Leave the number plates with the seller, get a permit and drive it home, then go through the usual NSW new rego stuff.
We did exactly this when El Wifeo bought the Mazda3 a couple of years back. No hassle at all, VicRoads permits are WAY easier than RMS permits too.

I've had my xc90 in nsw for 12 months but kept it on vic plates and left it registered at a vic address , but next week I'm getting a blue slip and registering it in nsw as vic rego runs out . Did the same with my valiant with zero issues .
Mobile blue slip mechanic barely looks at the car if your putting it in your name .
