    A shubbery.
  • Oz Volvo National Meet 2018 - Canberra ACT

The SSVC is having a swap meet today.

A swap meet at Oz Volvo Nationals 2019 is something I'd really like to see happen.
  • [ebay] [NSW] Volvo Repco head and Pistons for B20

^ It's a Heron design. The Repco head was all about port separation.

  • [] 240 Turbo Group A #604 (AKA #504), $POA [Falkenberg, .se]

First built in 1985, this car is best known as the Mauro Baldi / Peggen Andersson "electronics" car, which ran in the latter rounds of the 1986 ETC. It is a factory built and refurbished Volvo Motorsport unit.

It won the Finnish Group A championship in 1987 in the hands of Leif Wiik, and is presently owned by the legendary Peggen Andersson.

Price on application by serious buyers, as this one will be priced significantly more than the 240s you find on Gumtree.

    Critic's report -

    79 242GT, 338K km, manual, asking $19,000

This GT is way overpriced, IMHO. Seller admits the A/C isn't working, so the new owner will be lucky to get that sorted for under a grand. There's either an alternator / wiring problem or a problem with oil pressure (see pic), it doesn't appear to have real rego, and the pile of receipts is suspect (why is the top receipt for a rebuilt of an M47 by Berry's, when these things have the M46 from factory?) $19K cars shouldn't have these issues. Real rego in New South Gilead is going to set the owner back at least another $1500 or so, plus fixing anything picked up on inspection. IMHO, given the high mileage, and only because these things are getting rare, $10K is a fair price for this unit, with 12 months of real rego on it - conditional on the rear beaver panel not being rusty under the top rear rubber bumper lip.

    1990 245, white / blue cloth, M47 manual, 259K, asking $12,500

Premium prices can be asked by premium cars. Things like the lack of real rego and this centre console trim (wrong colour, and missing its little basket) take the polish off the premium price being asked. No mention is made about the aircon, although it's fitted. Sure, it has 16x6.5 wheels from a 960, and lots of speakers, but they doesn't make a 7 grand car with them and rego in a 12.5 grand one without it.

If I had this amount of money to spend, I'd be more tempted by this example - a white / blue cloth 1993 245 AW70 with A/C, power windows, only 143K km, and with 12 months real rego in New South Gilead, with a $15K ask. While the 93 is an auto, it does has the advantages of a superior AC system which is confirmed working, power windows, the later type of cargo area windows seals with drainage dimples (so trapped water doesn't rust out the tops of the rear quarters), plus it has 100K km less than the 1990, which will end up being the same price as the 93 once it gets real rego. Given the low kays, the 93 is closer to being a 12.5 grand car than the 90 will be, IMHO.

Meet me there or maybe see you further up the strip.

If we get off the Spirit of Tasmania on time and through Melbourne peak-hours traffic okay, we might meet you there. Missus and I will be in the dark blue 780.

Shame, I have a soft spot for 78's 244 and the colour ain't bad...

That thing has many soft spots... all in places where metal should be.

You can do a lot better than that for $990.

It's illegal to go through a red light at 2am when there's nobody for miles.... But it's perfectly safe to do so.

That's what the guy running the red light on Concord Rd, Nth Strathfield thought, when he T-boned a mate of mine in a Land Cruiser, just after he'd just filled up the long range fuel tank in the thing.

The POS Toyota fell on its side, ruptured the fuel tanks, and boom. He was burned alive. Fire crews / ambos couldn't get near the inferno to pull him out of the wreck.

The crash made the TV morning news, and was the big topic of morning discussion at a course I was doing that day. Didn't find out till I got home that afternoon that it was my friend who had died in that fire.

Which is why I get very shirty about running red light runners, and why (in NSW) it's only a 3-point offense, when doing 135 on a flat, straight, clear country road in good weather gets you double the points and a 3-month holiday. Especially how the public buys into the lie that 'speed kills' and allow the scam to continue, while truly dangerous shite with a hugely high probability of killing somebody only gets you a slap on the wrist.

Back to point - getting engineering approval isn't something anybody ought to be afraid of. They will pass stuff which has been done properly. If it's Parramatta Road-used-car-dealer repair level which makes you laugh aloud at the audacity of their dodginess, they won't.

And after seeing a modified Datsun 200B have its front suspension collapse in the main drag of Nth Adelaide, and causing a major traffic jam, I'm all for annual rego inspections, but only NSW has them. Cheapskate idiots, children, and fools who think of their cars as being like digital watches and toasters will bodgy them up as cheaply as they can and only if they think they can get away with it, e.g. using garden hose on the high pressure side of a K-Jet system. Which ruins it for those of us who like to modify cars and do things properly.

Ex-AU is best fit for 700/900, ex-BA can be used otherwise, V8 or turbo.

    Ex-EA-EL V8 is best fit for 240.
