Hi all,
I thought as I approach the later years of my lap of life....I should own a Volvo. Seems like the thing a lot of bowling club members do....mine is turbocharged though!!
I'm a devout petrol head and have owned quite a few cars over the years. I currently have, in addition to the Volvo, a couple of older cars that do their level best at keeping me off the road. I also have a few motorcycles.
I'm hoping I can hook up with some knowledgeable Volvo (2000 era FWD cars) to fast track my learning curve of my interesting new acquisition.
It is a well used V70 2.4T. Interestingly I can find no engine id anywhere to identify whether it's a low or high pressure turbo car? It has done 260K, motor seems very healthy, Interior reasonable, exterior just passable...but getting better. I'll talk about gearbox in a sentence or two!! It has an average fuel consumption of 9.0/100 which the previous backpacker owner hadn't knowingly reset for the last two years.
It needs a few "fixes".... (but everything works, power seats, Climate control, sunroof, fantastic stereo etc). Issues identified so far include, and i'm fairly sure this will be added to:-
- Cruise control indicator stalk is missing the end button.....hence very easy to scroll through instant, average mpg displays etc.
-
- Button that controls rear view external mirrors position is missing it's top "button".
-
- Spring seats for front coil springs sound like they aren't there anymore!!!
-
- Dreaded "Automatic transmission service" required message appears infrequently but easily reset with my el cheapo OBD scan tool.
-
- Air conditioning fantastic (climate control) until it turns itself off? It then reappears when it wishes and works great for awhile??
Being retired, I enjoy tinkering, I'm thinking I'll get plenty of practice here!!
To try and be kind to the car I have given it an engine and transmission oil change. I did the auto via a partial dump, measure and refill method. I'll do it again in a 100 kilometeres.
So what do you think, am I in a world of trouble? Can auto be resurrected with oil change and careful driving?? Does using "geartronic" function help avoid or cause troubles (like the P0705 and P1618 codes).
I should explain the reason I purchased the old girl....I felt sorry for it!!
It has only cost $1300 in total so far and it's a very nice drive....goes well too. A backpacker had to sell as he was off back to France....lovely young chap and very careful with car. The car even has the service book completed and details of parts replaced (including timing belt and abs module).
Please let me know your thoughts, be kind, it's my first Volvo! I do have a Husqvarna TE510 motorcycle which I really enjoy....it's Swedish too!!
Lastly, is it possible to download Vida software and connect to my car somehow (CHEAPLY)?
Cheers
Hopeful David
