My fuel flap has decided not to unlock and I need to access the solenoid and emergency release (2007 XC90). Before getting aggressive with the RHS rear trim panel are there any preferred methods of removing this panel so I can get into the body and release the flap (and suss out a cure). Ta.

Doh! I should have explored more before getting exasperated. Lifted the small triangular floor panel and there was a clip which when lifted released the trim panel. Accessed the solenoid, pulled the bolt back and fuel flap released. However, any insight into why this should not have unlocked automatically would be appreciated.

Probably a faulty relay. You can find them in the r.e.m (rear electronic module) on the passenger side of the boot accessed the same way you got to the fuel flap.
I think there's another relay there you can swap it with to confirm

Thanks for the help Tim. Found the REM but relay (2/59) seems not too accessible unless further trim removed (a bit reticent to disengage the REM from its brackets in case I dislodged something). But, flap started working intermittently and as relays are usually go/nogo, I'm thinking it might be a sticky or faulty flap solenoid. Any advice how to remove it? Surprised to see a loose blue wire (original - comes out of loom) floating around in the REM area. Nothing seems to be malfunctioning (except the flap) so I'm wondering what it might be. Thoughts anyone?
