Wanted full set of four 240 rotors & calipers in good order. I am assuming they can be retrofitted to my 1974 144GL manual.

There is an awesome writeup thats being published in this month's club mag, iirc the 164 setup is easier to adapt, Ill see what I can find regarding info on it

Thanks Julian - was l naive thinking 240s were a straight swap? Not very many 164s either. I'd better join the club ! Tiny

164 is the straight swap onto 140's. Later 240 setup would be very worthwhile but will take some mount work to get setup. Rears can be adapted from a metric tonne of years of Volvos with generally all you need to do being drilling out the mount holes to match

Thanks Egads - I'll do my homework. Tiny

If you're going the 164 vented route, be aware the 164 calipers hace significantly smaller pad area than the original 140. I used 140 calipers with a spacer between the two halves to overcome this.

Thanks Hendo - what I want is much enhanced brakes. I guess ventilated discs are better than pad size...? Tiny

Pad choice,, aggressive, with quality grooved ventilated discs would be easier to start?

The standard solid disk with a good pads and hoses (I vote for stainless) is an excellent choice for most driving conditions. I went for the vented disk because my 144 is a heavy, laden long distance rally car that sometimes needs a margin of safety at fairly high speed.
For pretty much anything else, I'd spend the hard earned on decent pads and hoses and make sure everything is in tip top condition.

Thanks to Snoopy - I will take your advice & contact Ash
Hendo - i rallied in the late 60s & early 70s, then spent 11 years in the NT, mostly remote communities. I should have taken a rally preparation approach from the start. I will PM.
Very sincere thanks to all of you for your advice, Tiny
