Hi there.
I am having an issue with my ignition lock. When ever I pull out my key, it sticks and buzzes at me as if I have left the key in the ignition. I can poke around in there and it usually clicks off.
I tried spraying WD40 in there and it cleaned alot of black stuff out. made the movement a bit nicer, but doesn't solve the issue. From my googling, other forums say to avoid graphite. No inox at home, not sure if i should buy a can.
I have replaced the ignition switch, which fixed a different issue: ignition positions 2 and 3 were previously fiddly. With a new ignition switch my ac blower, wipers, cigerette lighter power etc are now consistently on and I dont need to wiggle the key. However, replacing the ignition switch did not solve the sticky mechanism in the barrel.
I was going to remove the barrel and take it to a locksmith, but it seems to be bolted to the steering column?
I would rather not drill any one way bolts out.
Any suggestions out there to fix it?
In the meantime i guess i'll just disconnect the buzzer.

Key warning buzzer. Does it continue when you shut the door?

Hi Paul,
When I shut the door it turns off.
Definitely the mechanism in the barrel that is sticking.

Thats operating as designed to prevent you locking key in the car. Its also the headlight warning alarm.
Many are disabled.
Lived with it disabled for many years but re enabled when child had the car after numerous callouts for flat battery and lockouts.

Instead of wd40 use some carb cleaner and you will get loads more old stuff out of it... at some point the buzzer thingy should unstick
After reliably unstuck... use white lithium greese

Cleaned out the barrel with WD40 then hit it with contact cleaner. Cleaned it out with carb cleaner than hit it with contact cleaner again. Sprayed a light coat of innox inside the barrel. Action is great - stiff and mechanism is popping out when I pull the key out, so no ghost key buzz.
Cheers ya'll!
