Generally are oil leaks in a 3.2lt XC90 costly to fix?
timbo
Number one culprit is the camshaft driven brake vaccum pump. It will leak a scary amount of oil on top of the gearbox and looks quite bad, but is a simple fix.

Ok, hopefully the mechanic doesn’t take me for a ride!

Don't let them. You can source a vacuum pump rebuild kit from sandwood trading in Melbourne for $90

It's a couple of O rings and new bolts, clean and reassemble the pump
Absolute maximum labour charge of an hour

Ok great, I also had 8 engine fault codes and yesterday a red hazard symbol case on and says Power system urgent service... my good purchase is quickly adding up!

Tell us where you are, we can direct you to reputable knowledgeable independent volvo techs as most other places are flying blind and will charge you well for the flight.

I can vouch for the boys at Mack's Auto And tyre centre
They usually ring me for Volvo parts and advice and we service Richard's (owner) volvo.

Hi Tim,
I've already got it booked into Alpine Auto Centre who are apparently a Volvo specialist, if i don't have much luck or the quote comes out way too high i'll go to Macks.
Thank you for your help on this, appreciate it.

G'day Tim,
Mechanic said the leak can be fixed with some seal (similar to barsleak i think)
Other issue is the alternator isn't charging but i've located some parts on eBay for that which should work.
Overall, not a terrible outcome.

Hi Tim, got the car back today. Replaced alternator clutch, replaced belt, fixed oil leak and a few other bits. $1600 it set me back! Bugger
