G'day all,
Thought I'd say hello and show off the new goods. As the title eludes, I am a green Volvo owner. My partner and I picked up a lovely C30 T5 r design, auto, in the limited run polestar package. From what I was told only around 10 of this exact spec exist in Auz. First and only owner is a huge car fan, but never put the car through anything more than vigorous road driving, kept it serviced by Volvo and have moved it on with a little over 80k on the clock.
I have always been a big time jap car fan, coming from the Nissan 350z/350gt platform.. High revving NA motors, RWD and ground hugging with wide sticky tires have been my setups of choice. So I'm very excited to work with the somewhat infamous T5 motor in a FWD hatch.
From all my homework it would seem a nice big brake upgrade, chassis stiffening and a larger turbo can really make the C30 a serious track day contender. This is a daily driven car, my partner loves the Volvo C30 & its been the brand of choice in her family for years. I ironically commute via bus so the instructions are keep it sensible but don't let anyone pass you on the track.
I still have an 04 350GT skyline in the garage as well, which I plan to sell off and use the proceeds to transform our Volvo.
Elevate, DO88, Ceika, seem to have a lot of what I need for parts.
Stage one on the journey will be to order & install Ceika 6/4pot 300mm brakes front and rear(respectively) with appropriate uprated lines and a higher temp pad. Followed at the same time with stiffer rear sway bar(Mazda MPS I see?), internal rear strut tower bracing & a beefer front tower brace. Some slightly more aggressive 18x8or9"wheels wrapped in a sticky compound. (I'm finding options for wheels are not plentiful?) So really just making sure I'll go where it's told and not have brakes reminiscent of a thick sponge.
Stage two will be fitting a bigger K16 or Gt30 series turbo and 3" exhaust + the required supporting components; hard piping, boost controllers, waste gates, uprated fmic.. Etc. With a target of 350-400whp, airing to the side of reliability over shear output. A Quaife ATB Helical LSD differential may well find it's way into the car to help make use of the new found power.
At this point I'd be very happy with the overall result and will probably turn my attention terrorising all the various competitors hot hatch's to be found at local track days.
I am a brisbane local, so any advice on where to go, what to do an so on will.be greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing other Volvo nuts at meets/drives in the near future.
