newbutold Hi all New to the forum. Have had my 2001 S40 for about a year now. It needs a service but when I had it serviced last year I was told I need a tonne of ‘important but not urgent’ work done. They wanted me to put $4000 into a car I paid $3000 for. Anyways, didn’t get any of it done and here I am a year later needing another service, and I suspect some brake work done. In a nutshell, I’m pretty dense when it comes to cars, and am looking for an affordable and HONEST service centre in the Brisbane area to have my car serviced. I want them to be straight up with me and not tell me I need things that I don’t, and especially not take advantage of me because I’m a woman! Any and all tips are appreciated. Thanks!
Ex850R Welcome! Do you have a list from the last place? How many kilometres now? Any previous service history? It's a good car, worth the upkeep.
newbutold I'm having a hunt around for the document of recommendations they made but for the life of me I can't seem to find it. I know that they said I needed all my brake pads done, and it's a year later and they're still not squeaking although my light just came on and I suspect I'm low on fluid. I can only remember one of the other things which was a bolt on the engine mount was busted. I do think it's a good car and only has 150000 km on it so I'd like to put in the money to keep it up I just don't know what's a must and what I should let slide. I have the previous owners service history, it's been kept up pretty well with no major issues or accidents....I will keep looking for the silly piece of paper...
newbutold jamesinc;135895 wroteHi, welcome to the forums. The best place I believe is GLT in Capalaba. Thanks James, I'm in New Farm, about a 30 minute drive to Capabala. Worth it for a good mechanic do you think? Or should I try and find somewhere closer?
Jamest5r_ No GLT is the only place to go to, Peer is an expert on all things Volvo and won't rip you off, many people travel far more than 30 minutes for his services
