My 2010 D5 with 215,000k's on the clock is starting to make thudding sounds over potholes and wandering in the front end on country roads. I'm 99% sure it needs front shocks, but what else needs replacing in the front end at this milage? I'm sure i've read previously on the forum that there are front end bushes that need replacing, but i searched and couldn't find the posts.
Also what choices are there for aftermarket shocks/struts? or should i stick with Genuine parts? Local Volvo dealer has quoted $1800 for front shocks only (no bushes).

I replaced all the front end parts on my XC90 with bits from FCP Euro. Check out my previous post "Thudding wandering in front end". After my local mechanic fitted the parts it drove like new.

Welcome!
And yes, bushes and top mounts at least.
This is where we shop, cost of postage is nothing compared to the savings in parts prices. I did 3 orders in the past 6m.

For near on the cost that dealer (stealer) wants for just the front bit you get the whole lot.
Plus, FCP have lifetime warranty, return everything including used oil filters...

And, where are you?
We can point you to an independent Volvo shop who love Volvos and don't charge the earth and are great people.

Sandwood trading in Melbourne have Sachs (OEM) shocks in stock and aftermarket strut tops but I would advise using genuine volvo strut tops. Only other thing to check would be lower control arm bushes

^they are good too, just not fcp good....
And for sure forget anything but volvo strut top mounts, you will be replacing any others within weeks.. I found that out...
If all that's in that kit hasn't been done on your vehicle (and it sounds like it considering the extent of the issue) then just get the kit.
Otherwise you will be replacing all the bits along the way anyway, plus, not doing all means stressing out the new parts from the old worn bits.

I just had the whole front end refreshed in my 2007 V8 with 200k on the clock.
Masons prestige @VolvoDeger in Seaford did the work and I couldn't be happier.
Struts(Sachs), spring seats, helper springs, LCA, inner/outer tie rods, sway bar end links, ball joints, O rings in sub frame.
The steering rack was replaced but it all needed doing so while one thing was out everything got done
I would also go with Berry's but went with @VolvoDeger as I had friends to visit down there so I looked two birds with one stone.
Bite the bullet and get it all done as guaranteed it will all be needing doing at those km and age.
If I was doing the job myself I would have ordered from fcp or rock auto but the difference with getting the shop to do it and supply parts knowing they would back up their work want that much.

Thanks for the responses, and my apologies for not posting sooner.
I have previously purchased from FCP before (XC90 Rear Hub Assy) so am familiar with their parts and prices.
I'm based in Bathurst/Orange, NSW, so if anyone can recommend a Volvo friendly workshop in the Central West or Western Sydney, I'm listening.

@Dauntless might know of somewhere

Just thought i'd give the forum an update. Well i bit the bullet and ordered struts, lower control arms, ball joints, strut tops etc, etc from FCP Euro. Cost about $1100 US, but by the time they arrived at my door was just shy of $2000 Aussie. Got my local mechanic to fit everything up, plus do a service and fit some rear pads and I got change from $600.
And the verdict.....drives like NEW, no clunks or thudding and no longer behaves like a power boat over bumps, thanks for your advice everyone.

Power boat over bumps lol

Good to hear it was a success
