I've got a several master cylinders that need to be stored. My usual method of flushing with fresh fluid and sealing hoses off (screwing or capping) with fresh fluid is not possible as hoses have been removed.
So option two is to disassemble, clean with metho and then store with ATE brake grease on parts. Problem is I can't work out how to disassemble the brake master. Can't find anything online for these either. Rebuild kits exist but no guides.
I've always thought the retaining clip at the back of the master was holding the piston in. When removed though it's not under any pressure and the piston won't come out. There doesn't seem to be any other clip or retainer accessible....

If you remove the clip and pop one of the holes with compressed air it'll come out quick smart. It's under a bit of spring tension but not much, the groove of the retaining clip is enough to stop it popping out freely.
It probably doesn't matter too much what grease you use provided you clean it off, but silicone grease would probably be a good choice.
