All, i think i found it. goign to see if i can check it out on the weekend. Looks like some work has been done on it and more required. Fair few Kms too. Should i go for it or wait for another opportunity?
Chris
If it's generally sound it's a good buy. Can be OK mechanically at those km if it has been maintained, manual is more desirable but auto is better suited for some people, depends on your use.
You can't redo the clear coat BTW, it has to be repainted properly. Not sure about whether the bonnet is going dull, could just need cut and polish. Front bar looks good for one of these but there is overspray on the grey trim suggesting some sort of quick repairs so check what state the bar is really in. There are how to guides on here as they do break and are hard to find intact. Cosmetics = how much you care and are prepared to spend.
Last pic has lots of Volvo's. Could be someone on here or if not someone probably knows the owner. Could be handy.

Mehmet!
Infamous, serial volvo nutter!
Nice guy, have spent many long phone calls talking volvo and life.
Replica front bars can be brought in from Europe cheap, talk to JamesT5.
Any paint and panel damage you can see is moot point on a car as rare as this at this cheap price. Motors are plentiful as are gearbox options like modified autos and 6 spd manual from an XR5.
Interior is where you want good condition cos seats and door trims are rare.
Worth it, go and buy it before someone else does.
It's red, what more do you need!

And in my opinion best colour way for an 850R

Hi all, i had a look at the car and i loved it. Just a few things i want to ask for advice.
- The paint isnt the greatest but ill probably wrap the car so thats an easy fix.
- Glove box is locked and theres a rattling sound as the dash isn't stuck on properly. Mehmet said it was done cause of the aircon works but can be fixed if we get into the glove box. Pretty sure i can source a glove box quite easy
- shift knob is work out but that can be found easily
- seats are worn but i think that isnt worth it
- finally the main thing. its got 380kms on the clock. Mehmet said it probably had some work on it in the past cause it works quite well. I didn't notice any leaks or anything and the engine looked tidy (im no mechanic though). Whats the worse case scenario for a like this if something was to go wrong. Whats an engine swap cost? mind you i wouldn't mind giving the car a little more boost in the future.
- outside of that im keen but just worried about those things, are there any other big ticket items that may hurt the wallet?
Thanks all, cant wait to join the club!

Did you drive the car?
BigEd
i did, ive never driven one before.
last car i had was an evo 8 and i drive a hyundai now.
handling is light, car feels heavy but i think thats the car.
started with no problems but it was like 40 degrees in Sydney yesterday.
Turbo isn't anything crazy but its there.
Oh yeah the discs need grinding but mehmet said prob just buy new ones .

Sounds like a good runner at $2600. You get it up to highway speeds? Always good to take it for a nice long test drive and see if it has vibrations at 110km/h
ICEDVOVO
It's in the next suburb to me!!
Was going to have a look and buy it just for the hell of it.
Even if it blew up in 3 months time I would have still had my money's worth of fun at $2600
Hardly much to pay for something like this.
If it blows up just stick in another engine.
Always wanted an 850 R sedan
And so cool in red.
And if someone else buys it USE GENUINE VOLVO ROTORS!!!!!
Dont make the mistakes I have made in using RDA rotors .
The volvo rotors have much softer and sacrificial. They work really well with Akebono pads
But genuine volvo rotors are 4 times the price of RDA rotors and wear out 3 times faster.
That is the price you pay for for superb braking performance vs crap braking peformance.

Ah thanks all, pretty keen to get this as my daily driver to put a smile on my face

Go for it.
Find an independent repair shop through us here, buy parts from USA and maybe learn to do things yourself?
The seat skins are available too. A little craft werk.... and you have new seats!
Mehmet is a good guy, funny too.

Hi all, im planning to buy the car tomorrow unless Mehmet has already sold it. Is there a recommended mechanic in the Northern Sydney area? Im at Drummoyne way

Mate how’d ya go?

Ahhh I bailed the last moment. Dick move to Mehmet but wife said the car had way to many kms for her liking and since I'm no mechanic we would just end up paying alot more for everything. Ended up sleeping on the couch lol. Just need to wait for the next one.

Fair call hope you grabbed a pillow mate!
ICEDVOVO
Yeah high k's frightened me off too.
Don't think you'd see too many 400K cars out there.
How easy is it to get a replacement 850R engine?
ICEDVOVO
Sleeping on the Couch?
I do it very night.
CBF going to bed, wife's snoring keeps me awake.

Usually with cars that have travelled very many kilometres, it's a sign of longevity and reliability. Did you say you test drove the car? Were there any mechanical problems? If not, you missed out. Volvo's are one of if not the most reliable car you could get. Not sure how many other 850R's are available at that price. They're known for achieving high mileage numbers. Worldwide

Yeah i took it for a drive but im not one to notice anything put of the ordinaty. I think for me it wojod have been what would be potentially an issue or needed replacement once i took it for a service
