caerleon Hi my 1984 240 B23E auto has the dreaded degrading wiring issues. Some parts have been replaced, but others need attention. I was wondering how anyone else has dealt with this issue? Can the wiring be ordered from OS? It's a really well kept original car, and it's worth fixing. Thanks, Jaan
pauljloz I replaced the engine harness on a 1982 which is virtually the same. Full harness is available or you can roll your own. I re-manufactured the engine harness by replacing the wiring and recycling the connectors by soldering using heat shrink tubing and using new corrugated ducting. An afternoon saw this done but required some effort in confirming the circuit diagram as I re-routed the ignition ECU and alternator cable. All was fine for a few years until the earth strap to the alternator also failed (coolant leak and corrosion). Checked voltage drop across the alternator cables - these were also failing. I also got curious and looked at the body harness (lights and wipers) - it started to crumble before my eyes as I inspected it. It would probably be fine if left undisturbed but it clearly wouldn't survive any major disturbance of the wiring loom If you start, be prepared to continue until everything is replaced. You can nurse it along but it becomes unreliable as a daily driver.
