This is why the build date is important. It tells you the facts...and they cant be forged...and you cant be lied to.
That was built in Thailand. So what if the car was built in Sweden, but UK delivered?
Are Vin plates different in showing the build date id built in sweden?
I like to see a UK, 240 VIN plate and see.
To me it’s useless irrelevant information, all it does is confuses people. I don’t know how many times I’ve asked someone in Oz what year is their Volvo, and they respond with “built in XX complianced in XX”. It’s like asking for directions & instead of answering the question, the person starts talking about what the weather is like at your destination! (which is what the Americans are like, I’ve had that a few times over there). Owners in Oz are often so hung up about built date & compliance date they confuse it with model year & ends up ordering the wrong part.
With my S90 Executive, it’s an interesting car in that it was built in Sweden, assembled in Thailand to Indonesian market spec, but instead went to New Zealand as a brand new car. Furthermore, NZ transport authority records shows the car’s origin as Malaysia, and NZ dealer also told me it was sold by Volvo cars Malaysia. So I emailed Volvo international customer relations to see what other additional information they could give me to resolve the mystery of why it never went to Indonesia even though it was built to Indonesian spec, I wasn’t really after the built date of the car, that was just one information they provided when they got back to me.
Photo of the VIN plate is a Belgium market spec 240 that I found on the net... again no built date!
