Hi There!!
Yesterday when I left my garage, I drove down the road and changed the gear and my clutch pedal stayed down and did not come back. I read that it could be the clutch master cylinder or the respective seals in there because there is air in the system now. The brake reservoir is still full and the level is still the same. I have a engine error showing up in the dash board. So I reckon I should replace both the seals on the clutch master and slave cylinders ??? Any advice on how to do it best??

Take them out and take it too the clutch shop.I see Ash# on this site can get his hands on master cylinders and no doubt slave as well.

Hi Mac!!
Well first of all I would like to know if my idea is right......could it really be the clutch cylinders?? Because the fluid level in the brake reservoir is still the same and I would suggest it would drop but on the other hand it only starts to fail yesterday...
So how likely is it that its the clutch cylinders??
What else could it be??
Why is the brake fluid level not dropped? And I assume the brake circuit is totally isolated from the clutch circuit?? The brakes are working fine.
First time that I have an error like that...
I d like to get a new original volvo clutch rebuild kit and fix them myself. How much are these kits for both (master and slave cylinders)?
Cheers

would you believe i had near the same problem today in my month old V70 clutch - parts courtesy of FCP USA. The car itself is 20 years old btw.
Anyway i went to change gear and the clutch went to the floor and stayed there. Kept moving and got back into 2nd. went round the block and parked downhill while i thought what to do next. I had a look under the bonnet the V70 has a sort of quick release connector in the clutch piping. Like they have in the headlight electrics- to hold the plug in place.
Anyway i dont know which brilliant volvo engineer got a cash bonus for applying this same concept to pressure piping as has been done in the heater connections and the clutch but it is dodgy-as! Maybe my mechanic didnt put a new o ring or clip in but i dont think it came with the kit.
What had happenned is the slave cylinder - concentric style -has a rigid pipe out the side ending in the male end of the quick connector. The connector itself came apart putting fluid everywhere! After a bit of a fiddle i got it back together; we bled the clutch and all appears well again but itll be with my mech for a recheck on monday.
Anyone else in the forum had an issue with these ? This is the post 97 clutch slave cylinder - used on awd, R and xc as well - any hints on which parts to get when doing a clutch i might go for the complete pipe at USD 73 its probably a bargain!

Hi there! Its herman but somehow I could not log in with my account. Anyway.
I found out that the slave clutch cylinder was leaking and the snap ring was lose and so the slave cylinder itself and because of that it coukd not activate the fork.
Does somebody has a photo how to install the snap ring? Where does it sits??

Alright. So I fixed the issue. It was the slave clutch cylinder. it was slightly leaking and the circlip was stuffed, could not hold it anymore in the bracket. Oh I ordered a master clutch cylinder as well from FCP but they only fit for north american volvos.......could not use it.........
