Major Ledfoot Computer says 'No'. By 'shifter' I presume you mean the gear lever and top cover. The M40/M41 top cover will fit on the M400/M410. There are two types of cover - with or without thread for the gearshift lever. M45/M46 use a different part number. http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/drive-train/transmission/manual-transmission/transmission-repair/cover-gearbox-housing-m40-m41-m400-m410/1045096/ http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/drive-train/transmission/manual-transmission/transmission-repair/cover-gearbox-housing-m40-m41-m400-m410/1045097/
ab1 I think ive got my terms wrong I should say gear knob this is what id like to put instead of what is currently
Major Ledfoot I'd find it pretty easy - it's a relay, a switch, a couple of connectors, a bit of crimping, and some wires.
ab1 My over drive is hooked up to a button on the dash but I'd rather have the stalk on the side in that photo. I'd imagine they'd be quite rare and difficult to source?
Major Ledfoot They're around, but the switches rarely break AFAIK. It's a hunt-for item. p/n 1206100 or 1221446 are 73/74 original, but p/n 677479 from an earlier model will work too.
DCW242 CVI have the 72 and earlier type, not cheap though. http://www.cvi-automotive.se/en/articles/2.14766.48645/overdrive-switch-140164-1972? Have you seen Iceton's green 164? it has an M410 with a 240 M46 shiftier knob.
Canoe bgpzfm142;122667 wroteIMO it would be far cooler if you got the original little lever switch. Agreed. But someone else was saying, even though you can engage without clutching, its best of you do. Would you agree?

ab1 so the stalk is 80$ I gather cheaper If I can find a used one much more difficult than sourcing an m46 shift knob. does anyone know how you actually remove the m410 shift knob?
1971_144GL I was going to do the m46 button conversation as well. Happy to build two if I am doing one, but you would need to supply both shifters. And not be in a huge rush. On the steering column is cool on my 144, but can be inconvenient at times for quick overdrive disengagement. Not as cool As the 1800 toggle switch system, love the early alloy dash and switch look.
