Engine shut down while doing 120 KPH on highway, all warning lights came on, no unusual noises, no temperature, no tainting of oil or coolant, all five cylinders have lost compression, timing belt is good cam turning over and after placing a camera into each bore the is no visible sign of damage????
Has anyone had a similar experience? Any thoughts?

When you say all five cylinders have lost compression, do you mean they read low or you get no compression reading at all?
That's a weird one, on all five? If you had no compression at all on all five cylinders, when you engage the starter motor the engine should just turn over smoothly, with a constant drone sound and none of the usual cranking sound. Is that what you're hearing?
If that is indeed the case, I'd start with the VVT system as it's the only thing I can think of that might cause loss of compression on ALL cylinders.
Gosh
Thanks James, this is exactly what I was thinking, all cylinders are down to about 40 PSI and it turns over quietly, beyond the VVT solenoid is there anything else you can think off?
jamesinc
Everything else I can think of generally only happens to one cylinder at a time. If all five cylinders are reporting the same compression, there are really only two things I can think of. Either (a) you've got a cam that's slipped a couple teeth on the timing belt (definitely worth checking) or (b) your VVT solenoid is acting up.
Otherwise it's stuff that's really unlikely, like you've somehow cracked all five pistons at once, that sort of thing.

Interesting..................................................has the crank gear moved on the crankshaft as I do a few of these issues on xc70 , this causes valve timing to go out and sometimes bend valves. I am doing another one at the moment. I could send you a pic of gear
Gosh
That would be great! thank you.

Not great at attaching pics but give you mobile and i can send to you , even though valve timing marks all lines up ok the crank is not in correct position. this could be it the one i am doing at the moment bent all exhaust valves.

Thanks everybody for your input, What I am told has happened is that the air conditioning belt shredded itself and fed itself into the timing belt causing the timing belt to slip a notch or two!!! Is this possible?? I thought the air belt would be outside the timing case? Can any body recommend someone who can recon a head?
timbo
I have heard of this happening before. Its possible the tensioner for the belt failed or also the alternator freewheel/clutch so get those checked.
Your cheapest option would be a 2nd hand head and just get it surface ground.
Mark at berry motor group can probably help with a head
VolvoDeger
It is possible but would be surprised, xc 60 has the issue of belt going behind front cover destroying engines.
I might have a head but have you confirmed bent valves for sure and who has told you this?, what area are you in maybe we can help.]
cheers steve

I had the t belt slip on mine due to a failed tensioner, strongly recommend pulling the head, not a hard job just time consuming. And examine the valves etc, you have nothing to loose

How`d it go @Gosh?
