I was having a chat with him about that recently while we were extracting an engine. The problem was how the rod moved around on the gudgeon a bit, as did the rod at the big end end. Eventually at high RPM and boost, the rod angles went Z-shaped and... ka-boom.
The solution was to use JVAB rods and the CP pistons he supplies.
Also, if you're stroking a redblock engine to get 2.5 litres, you're best off using a long stroke Penta crank, p/n 3514121, from a AQ 151C or 251DOHC as a basis.
Those last letters are important withAQ Penta engine designations! C and D Penta engines generally have the 63mm diameter main bearings and rear thrust. The 55mm diameter main bearing cranks with centre thrust in the AQ151A and AQ151B are better off being used as boat anchors, not in boat engines or in any engine.
