Amen to that. And it's an L (with a back seat conversion)
gavinh
Yeah the missus had a look at it today for me as I'm up north on site. It looks great from the photos but that's it she said, massive lack of room in the rear seats from the conversion. A few mechanical issues with the brakes, head lining coming away. Deep scratches down passenger side and rust in rear windows frames etc, complete exhaust. probally $5-700 car she said. Hope it gets saved though. If it's still there next week will have another look at it in person.

Good man gav. Definitely worth a look at. He’s a bastard if he sells it to back packers regardless of its condition. ?

I was giving this one some thought but sounds like it's not really worth a trans-Bass Strait, transcontinental roadtrip, thanks for the heads up Gav.
My uncle had (until he recently scrapped it :expressionless: ) a 245L conversion from new, and it was as per any other 245 in the rear seat. No idea why this one is mounted so far forward.
I do like the L cargo floor with a rear seat.

Dump the back seats and make a mini van
gavinh
That would be the best option, said that to the missus, then she said it's a definite no, but the kids can just lie in the back

Just for trips out for the two of you Gav!
Bloody children, leave em at home.
They ruin our lives they do!
Ex850R
Very rare in any case (unless you are Mark....)
So worth it no matter the little rust, scratches and seat, it's all fixable and I bet sending one of these back to Europe will make you very rich one day.
gavinh
@Ex850R if it's still there in a week I will hopfully go for a look.

Not sure if I'm understanding correctly what you mean, but it looks to me more like the two front seats are pushed all the way back + tilted back as well, thus giving the appearance of little legroom in the back. Look at the seat belt pillar position... the top bolt was slightly behind my shoulder when my front seats were in the driving position. Also, you can see plenty of floor in the driver seat photo. If I were driving my 70s 244s with the seats in that position, I wouldn't have been able to reach the gear shift. Third, the rear wheel arches (inside the car) seem to be in the correct position compared to the seat (sticking into the sides of the passenger's backs).
gavinh
Yeah. It looks fine in the pic's, when ash went for a drive in it with the kids in the back, my sons knees were against the back of the seat, in my 244 seat roughly in the same position there is still plenty of rm. Wether the base is in a different position?.
Theore I look the more im liking the idea of buying it and making it a 2 seater again.
There seems to be very little info or pictures of the inside online.

Please buy the damn car gav lol it deserves to be in good hands

Yeah, tell me about it. While I didn't look for hours, the other day I did try to find interior pics of a 245 transit I believe it's called. I wanted to know how the people in the back row get into their seat. But search engines are useless now, displaying "relevant results" rather than what you actually type in. Which produces thousands of pages showing the same exterior picture.
Chris
Oh yeah, 245 Transit what a machine!
familyman
Yep. I could fit in a pool and billiard table.
gavinh
245 transit???
familyman
Yep, 245T - put it in a search engine. They extend the wagon body like a limo and install a second back seat facing forward.
Assuming you can still fit a rear-facing dicky seat, that's the ability to carry 9-10 people!
gavinh
That would be cool to have. It's a surprise mark iceton doesn't have one in his collection
familyman
Well 7-8 adults and two small kids, anyway. Depends on if the second rear seat holds 2 or 3 adults. I wonder if it would comply here without much hassle.
Just found an interesting pic. I bet the seats were like this, so the middle one could be flipped out of the way to access the second back row:
