Hello Brains Trust,
I need some more advice. You might remember I was having electrical issues with my 240, which were eventually isolated to a dodgy fuel pump fuse (see this thread:
https://ozvolvo.org/discussion/5873/240-electrics-no-juice-getting-to-fuel-pumps#latest). Replaced that and all was fine and dandy for a few months.
I now have a new no-start error which feels electrical too. The symptoms are this:
1) Put key into ignition, turn to second position. Fuel pumps prime, dash lights up, all is well in the world.
2) Turn key to start engine. There is an immediate loud click/bang (see video below) and the dash lights go out and the engine does not turn over. Everything appears to be bricked at that point (i.e. ignition is dead).
3) Turning key back to 0 and then to 2, everything still seems dead - no lights, no priming of pumps, nada.
4) Disconnect battery negative, reconnect battery negative, and you can start from (1) again. This happened 3 times this morning and it started on the 4th try. Every other time i got the click of death when turning to crank position.
[will edit this post to add link to video when YouTube decides it cbf processing it...]
Any thoughts? I'm completely lost. On the 4th cycle of the above when it did start, everything seemed normal and the car drove absolutely fine.
As always, any advice very gratefully received!
cheers,
Rico
