Spac Why doesn't anyone talk about adding a turbo onto a NA Whiteblock motor? Weak rods? Relatively large numbers of factory turbo motors? Something else?
Ex850R Scared. Worries about higher compression. I ran my lpt v70 with a boost screw tee (MBC) without a boost gauge etc. Screwed it up till it was fun, heaps of low down grunt. Now it's not an NA of course but the thing was great! Better than similar MBC on the T5. I had plans of a boosted na in a 245 but things happened. They talk about valves blah blah. I reckon Mike had it... The only difference btw the na and turbo valves is the melting points are about 30 seconds apart. I like it. Most likely thing is its not viable unless you have the bits? A 16t on a 10 valve na could be epic. Whack some ebay rods in to be sure...
Ghettobird Because the work and time required are through the roof compared with just getting an already T5/R car Loom and computers - Total complete loom swapover required Compression is wrong Rods will be weak as fk It has been discussed, and it has been done, and it aint worth it ;) Ive got a soft spot for the boggo crap 10 valves, they flow like crap though but they do sound amazing
Spac You say "Whiteblock" and everyone assumes you're talking about I5s... :) To elaborate, I'm thinking 960 motor, but also with a general curiosity mostly to do with the I4 whiteblocks (a B4184 with a turbo on it still comes in under 3000cc effective capacity for most racing classes).
Vee_Que Probably because they are so common and the gearbox differences etc. Run e85 and an ostrich and it can probably work. It's not done in the 6 as the rods are weak and a t6 is not expensive to get even if mounts are different.
Philia_Bear jamesinc;108538 wroteProbably because it's easy to get a T5 or R for cheap. This... every time...
Vee_Que nickm;108582 wroteWhy not supercharge the 6? Because the t6 exists. Less hassles to turbo it than make all the manifolds etc for a supercharger. If you want to do it though, I'd be interested to see it.
