Major Ledfoot It's high time to do some serious rebushing of The Cleever (940 T) and The GoaT (1979 242 GT). (Especially in The GoaT, after Rudi found a lower front control arm bush which was as old as the car....!) They will each be used for spirited driving on sealed roads, not track, and The Cleever will have some towing duties. Given the usage, where should I be using urethane bushes in the front and back, and where should I use OE rubber in each vehicle? Is the Kaplhenke spherical bearing that replaces the 240's rear trailing arm bush okay for road use, without putting NVH levels through the roof? Also, who does good quality McPherson strut top hats for the 240s and 700/900? Full adjustment range isn't really needed - they only need to give me about 1.0 to 1.5 deg neg camber and as much positive caster as possible without drilling &/and bending things.
Ex850R Kaplhenke does 2 lines of 240 strut top gear. Looking at the budget ones myself, or just fabricate something.....
Spac I've been happy with urethane in both mounting points of a 240 LCA. Ash recommends 1x rubber and 1x urethane. I've fitted urethane to both ends of the upper/torque rods, with no apparent ill effects. I was very cautious of this after doing the same on an RX-5 caused a lot of handling dramas (noting that the Volvo geometry is more forgiving, and relies less on the give in those bushes for articulation).
Vee_Que On the 940, rear control arm bushes at the body, both the subframe arm bushes I'm urethane, they are a bit annoying to get, but worth it. Pan hard rod, rubber works well. On the front, track rod cone bushes and sway bars in urethane, the rest in rubber.
