So far on my b30 I've gone for a k cam with a port polish on the E head expecting a nice bump in power
Would the gains of going to double valve springs (i believe the current ones offer 80 pounds of tension) combined with bigger exhaust valves and roller rocker arms be noticeable on top of this?
cheers
GingerNinja
Maybe if you're planning on going higher than stock rpm limits.
Also, any other mods to intake or exhaust or is it mostly stock?
Vee_Que
The stock valves suck above 5000 rpm, they allow valve bounce.. Double valve springs at about 95lbs are pretty much perfect.
Roller rockers cost 1000 for a b20, so more for a b30. Did you also already change the exhaust valves? Or will the head come off again? The B30e exhaust valves are bigger I'm sure.
So did you have a cam ground in the end?
ab1
they weren't stock what were put in
theyre new valves but standard size. Head will have to come off again if i were to do that :| e valves are bigger but turbo bricks threads have recommended going giver again. cam was ground to K spec

Port polish and K cam

So it was sent to Clive? Don't stress on this stuff for now. Without a lot of compression, head porting, bigger exhaust valves are not a gain in these motors.
Kinda wish the cam choice was bigger though, as the K is still very small and stock. Especially with a 3l. But wait and see man.
ab1
yeah clive did it. how much is a lot of compression on these I'm assuming itll be slightly higher than 10.5 or whatever stock is.
hmmmm :( the original was a C... i don't want to lose all the down low torque
Next step a good exhaust?

Iron head on pump fuel 98Ron, 10.5:1 is roughly the max.
It's also roughly what Alex and I are running on our relatively hot b20.
2-2.25" is quite adequate.

Yeah, certain people will convince you that you will have an undriveable car. I'm not convinced.

Hashanah. Undrivable, what a load. We saw that street registered Capri, drag car. Rpm, launching while idling. Very difficult to drive, but would be fun as hell.

ill just have to see how it drives d jet is probably limiting it heaps anyway.
do you know what are the options for extractors i know theres options for b20 but b30 i can only find an option from KG trimming
deleted_user_160
That will be about your only option, less a custom extractor. Which in reality aren't overly expensive.

My head, pre paint. Ported and decked by @vee_que
ab1
do you have bigger valves jay?
what isn't overly expensive for a custom set haha :#
deleted_user_160
No, just the larger E head valves.
No real need for my driving, or performance gains.
I got quoted 1200 for a custom knotted mess of equal length runners. In steel steam pipe.
Vee_Que
You won't need custom extractors Alex. It's not nessecary to make more power as the stock unit flows just as well until you actually have a race engine.

whats the next best value step in your view?
deleted_user_160
Right squish, heavy porting, double valve springs and a cam suited to your requirements.

Drive it first! Then megasquirt, head porting etc is fine, but drive it first.

Ms1 v3 extra is all that is needed for the ems
D jet is very limited and going to ms1 will give you a huge range of tuning options

130rwkw from a b20 on ms1 with quad itb
