What makes the bonnet pull break? = Misalignment of bonnet pin into latch causing user to apply excess force.
- start with the bonnet pin and watch it as it enters the catch. It should enter dead centre.
So many latches are slightly misaligned, so the pin ends up being really loaded one side and then you have to really pull the catch to release it.
- Using the pin to align a bonnet to the guards is in a sense a cheats way of finishing off but stuffs up the release mechansim.
Ensure pivot mechansim under the catch is free (re-grease if required) and the return spring operates freely.
Last bit of advice is the cable - its really meant to be clamped on the black outer. Around the back of the headlight area I affix a cable tie also to keep the cable from flexing too far.
In the end the bonnet should release with just a bit of a pull.
Hope this helps.
