Doing some research on radiators, so decided to weigh up a genuine Volvo 240/740 alloy-plastic end tank radiator.
(I use an all-alloy unit in the 242GT T, but I think its bigger and therefore heavier than I need as it never gets hot, hence reviewing a standard Volvo unit for comparison).
The 240/740 radiators are very light weight and seem perfectly sized for the B23/230 engines.
Volvo alloy-plastic end tank unit accurately weighed has the auto-trans cooler (a copper heat transfer insert) inside the plastic endtank (pic below).
Radiator dry weight =3,080g (3.08kg) this includes the
autotrans copper insert that by itself weighs 375g.
Weight of water to fill the radiator = 1,800g (1.8kg) and this was for 1,800 cc of water.
Total Volvo 240/740 radiator (auto version) weight filled with water (3.08+1.8) =
*4.9kg
*Weight figure(s) updated. AH 5 April 2017
So quite a light unit, as I was expecting a lot heavier.
Below is a pic of the autotrans copper insert for people who haven't seen one. The plastic end tanks incorporate an O-Ring groove all the way around, and the O-Ring perishes and relaxes as the years go by.
