Hello, I've got the gearbox, I just need an M46 tail shaft - even if it is only to the centre bearing!
240
Give me a couple of weeks and I will have a spare - although I'm in Canberra, freight might be pricey because of the length...
Tassie6er
Hey @240 that would be great. I've been hunting for one locally and no luck. Unless I'm mistaken I only need the front half from the gearbox to the centre bearing.

As in the smaller piece?
Will pm you.
Tassie6er
Yes that is correct. Speak soon.

I as also have a couple in Melbourne if this doesn't work out. But it will have to wait until the tourist's have stopped booking out the ferry. Can't get a car on for a suitable day lately.
Tassie6er
@1971_144GL as luck would have it, I'll be in Melbourne with a car this weekend....

I have a tenant in my property and it is locked in the back shed. The key is in Tassie. Pity, that would have been a good solution. What are you converting. I have a manual 88 wagon that I am trying to decide if I need. Wife not happy with it in the drive. It may become parts.
Tassie6er
I have a 78 244DL and the M46 to suit - just need tailshaft. I also have a diff to suit I believe a 140 Series with about a 4.3 ratio which I'm going to advertise later today - it weighs a heap and is just getting in the way if that is of interest.
1971_144GL
I used to drive one of them, they are great with m46. If the diff is 4.56 I am keen. I think I have three spare 4.3. but l think Al was talking about a spare diff to convert to limited slip, so perhaps a good Tassie home. I will ask him. I hope to get to Melbourne in the next few weeks. Canberra might be a faster option.
Tassie6er
Thanks for that - I was planning to mention it to @bigal as well because it needs to go to a Tasmanian home in practical terms. I'd say it looks like the Canberra option is the way to go, but I'll just keep plugging until I get an outcome.
volvodriverman
I can do the front section of a 7 series m46 shaft with the corresponding rubber donut thing & output flange if that helps...which I don't really know!
Vee_Que
You can also have the m45 tailshaft shortened.
Tassie6er
Thanks @Vee_Que I really don't want to go through getting it cut down and then having it balanced. @volvodriverman do you know if it would fit or for that matter does anybody know if the front half of the tail shaft from a 7 series fit an M46 fitted to a 244?
volvodriverman
I don't actually know with any certainty however in a couple of days time I can climb under the gt and measure one against the other. I have heard of people using the 7 series centre bearing as an upgrade in a 2 series however.
Tassie6er
@volvodriverman that sounds like a great plan - I'm itching to put the M46 in...

Does not afaik
Tassie6er
Thanks @Philia_Bear that is good to know but a disappointment.
carnut1100
I had a tailshaft done by Weatherhead in Chesterman St.
A good mate of mine works there.
Not expensive, doesn't take long, and they do dozens of tailshafts a month...
Tassie6er
Thanks @carnut1100 how did you measure it up?
