DW42 This wagon on Gumtree is in my neighbourhood. A little pricey perhaps, but not in terrible shape. I see it tootling around quite a bit -- not very many around in light metallic green. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/currumbin-waters/cars-vans-utes/1986-volvo-240gl-wagon-7-seat/1141032602
OldnDecrepit That must be the worst place to get rust, the A pillar. Thinking about it I wonder how it got rusty there?
DW42 I don't know how it got rust on the A pillar -- but it lives only a few blocks from the sea, so perhaps it's a case of a paint chip gone malignant.
familyman Thin paint on the edge started it I bet. It happens more often at the same point but at the rear of the car. Because driving causes those dirty vertical streaks down the rear quarter panel - meaning you tend to rub/polish more in that area. i.e. You wash, polish, and it doesn't take very long at all, to remove the paint on that edge. Add coastal salt air to the mix, and you get the above result. Well, from my experiences that's what I think anyway... due to the way the rust is far worse on the vertical crimped edge (where the paint would be thinnest and more easily removed from washing/polishing) and, is less the further away you get from that point. I've had poorly-fitted windscreens cause rust, but it usually occurs a few cm over - at the corners of the glass, below the windscreen rubber.
